‘Wild Country’, explores the dangerous beauty in the Australian landscape through texture, space, shapes, and colour. The collection draws inspiration from personal lived and visual experiences with the diverse and extreme Australian landscape.

Unstable and egregious weather events corrode the fragile landscape and push the flora and fauna to the tipping point, it's too much, too often. Each work references an extremely dangerous event of either fire, flood, drought, or the beautiful yet hazardous aftermath of rejuvenation.

The collection considers the complexities of displacement, death, and destruction of life affected by these natural events. Drawing on aerial photography and imagination the compositions of the paintings utilise a range of colour, shapes, and textures as a way for the viewer to move through the work and the exhibition.

Wild Country was shown as a solo exhibition at Leda Gallery, Newcastle, 6-17 January 2023.
